Transformed dissipation in superconducting quantum circuits

چکیده
Superconducting quantum circuits must be designed carefully to avoid dissipation from coupling to external control circuitry. We describe a reformulation of dissipation theory based on a current-to-current transformer model. We test this theory with an experimentally determined impedance transformation of 105 and find quantitative agreement better than a factor of 2 between this transformation and the reduced lifetime of a phase qubit coupled to a tunable transformer. Higher-order corrections from quantum fluctuations are also calculated with this theory, but found not to limit the qubit lifetime. We also illustrate how this simple connection between current and impedance transformation can be used to rule out dissipation sources in experimental qubit systems.

The upside of noise: engineered dissipation as a resource in superconducting circuits
Historically, noise in superconducting circuits has been considered an obstacle to be removed. A large fraction of the research effort in designing superconducting circuits has focused on noise reduction, with great success, as coherence times have increased by four orders ofmagnitude in the past two decades. However, noise and dissipation can never be fully eliminated, and further, a rapidly g...

In this thesis, measurements on superconducting electrical circuits that exhibit quantum mechanical effects are presented. Nonlinear superconducting circuits can be regarded as artificial atoms with energy spectra that can be engineered. The artificial atoms can be used as quantum bits for quantum computation. By coupling the artificial atoms to the electromagnetic field inside a transmission l...
متن کاملQubit lattice coherence induced by electromagnetic pulses in superconducting metamaterials
Quantum bits (qubits) are at the heart of quantum information processing schemes. Currently, solid-state qubits, and in particular the superconducting ones, seem to satisfy the requirements for being the building blocks of viable quantum computers, since they exhibit relatively long coherence times, extremely low dissipation, and scalability. The possibility of achieving quantum coherence in ma...

متن کاملTHESIS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Towards Superconducting Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits
The superconducting Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) is vital in all modern superconducting Rapid Single Flux Quantum (RSFQ) digital systems. Importance of microwave components comes from the fact that superconducting circuits operate with an ultra-wide band signal in the ultra-low dissipation environment. At a typical signal bandwidth of 300 GHz, even a 100μm superconducting wire...
